About Us
Manta Waru Girambit is a family business. We provide Authentic Australian Aboriginal Arts and Cultural Crafts.
Manta Waru meaning Desert translated is Earth Fire. The Yankunytjatjara people of Central Australia have been connected with the Manta 'earth' for many many generations. As a descendant of this ancient land Melissa Lilley is proud to share her culture with you.
Melissa has been painting for 20+ years after spending time with her Uncle and Aunties who taught and showed her how to culturally share the stories that are part of who she is. Each piece she completes is connected through story or technique to a history that is thousands of generations old.
Moving from the desert she married into the Warrimay people. They are the traditional owners of the breathtaking area of Port Stephens on the New South Wales Coast. The name Girambit meaning Saltwater is from the Gathang language of the Warrimay people.
Manta Waru Girambit therefore respectfully brings together two living cultures into a unique collection from both the Desert and Saltwater, Sharing her culture with the wider World Melissa is acknowledging her ancestors and keeping her culture alive for her children and future generations.
Its a culture that respects and protects the Manta and Girambit and all living things that are sustained by it.
